The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships are finally returning.
On this week’s SmackDown, it was announced on commentary that beginning on the Aug. 8 episode of Raw, a tournament to crown new champions will begin.
The titles have been vacant since May when Sasha Banks and Naomi were stripped of the gold and indefinitely suspended following them walking out prior to Raw. Team Boss ‘N Glow won the gold at WrestleMania 38 in a Fatal 4-way that involved Shayna Baszler & Natalya, Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley, and then-champions Queen Zelina & Carmella.
Directly after it was announced that Naomi & Banks were stripped of the titles, a tournament was said to be coming to crown new champions. After this confirmation, there has been no word about the tag belts until this announcement on SmackDown.
There wasn’t any additional information on possible names involved or how many teams will be in the tournament at the time of this writing.
