Our Two Cents
Batting for Team DD this week, it’s Erin giving us her personal opinion on this week’s topic:
Erin | I think there’s a lot more uncharted territory for Layla as far return possibilities go. She hasn’t had a strong singles run, having been part of Lay-Cool for so long and sharing her only title reign with Michelle. She’s more pliable than Maryse as far as face/heel turns go: she could return as a babyface to go up against the Divas of Doom or stay heel and join them. I don’t see her going straight into a title run, but I can definitely see her getting a decent share of the spotlight.
Maryse, however, has had a significant singles push and 2 title reigns, and I can’t see the WWE ever turning her face, with how easily the heelishness comes to her. All of this kind of works against her, as it gives creative more of an excuse to say that they “have nothing for her” in terms of a big return. Layla has more fresh opportunities, and while that doesn’t guarantee a big return, it makes one more likely.

Clinton Bowman | Usually, the babyface would come back with the biggest impact, and this will be no different. With the Divas of Doom dominating the WWE right now, Layla is the one with the biggest advantage storyline wise. Maryse still has NXT, so she has something to do, but Layla just has so much options going forward, especially with the Kelly chapter beginning to run it’s course. Granted, Maryse just oozes charisma, but she is so much of a heel, that the impact would be muffled, especially since there are no sown seeds for a legit program with her. The question that is looming in my head is if Layla’s impact be bigger NOW or when Kharma returns. That question remains to be answered, but that doesn’t mean she cannot make waves upon her return. |

Daniel Royce Wilhelm | I would honestly like for them both to have equally huge comebacks. I would like to see Maryse come back and actually be able to show what she can do in the ring! I think a face turn for her would be incredible. I can see Maryse being a trickster and humorous face that the crowd can enjoy, like a sexy female Santino, that can still get down in the ring. She fits the “barbie” image so she could have a good feud with the DOD. Layla is trickier for me… I really would like to see her as a dominant heel, much like Molly Holly was when she feuded Trish. Although I love Layla, she comes across very plastic as a face so a dominant heel role would be great. |

@JetSetter845 | Layla is definitely going to have the bigger comeback. I think WWE should include her in the “Divas of Doom” storyline where she backs Kelly Kelly up as a way to repent for her “LayCool” ways and remind everyone that they go way back to ECW. |

Josue Guzman | This is a tough one. Both are decent and pretty much left right after their storylines, Layla with LayCool and Maryse being Ted’s “bodyguard”. But out of the two Maryse‘s comeback will be stronger. She is on Raw, which is a huge advantage since it is the bigger show. Held the title more than Layla has, which could lead her to feud with Beth and enter the Diva of Doom storyline. She has proven that she doesn’t have to necessarily compete in the ring to deliver a good show. Overall, I think Maryse will have the bigger impact, not to say Layla’s won’t have some kind of impact. |

@MickieManiac | I would have to go with Layla. She was in the middle of a big push & storyline before getting injured. Even though Michelle isn’t there anymore, I think Layla could come back and use the whole “I don’t need Michelle” thing. She can try to prove to the other Divas that she can be her own person without Michelle at her side.
As for Maryse, I don’t think she will have any “big return” that some think. I could see her returning on an edition of Raw in a tag team match or something. I could be wrong, though. She wasn’t doing anything prior to getting injured so I’m not sure how it would play out. |

@Tara_Rocks | I think that Maryse could come back with a bigger impact! At least, she NEEDS to. I wish we could see AT LEAST one more glimpse back at her 2007-2009 wrestling days! Don’t you agree? Layla could, but I don’t see her coming back anytime soon. :( Maryse could come-back when Crazy Kelly is attacking Beth, and help Beth and start a alliance, or join the divas of doom. But, Beth never did like Maryse. Her wrestling ability, that the want her to present to the WWE Universe, is….eh. She has the potential to SHINE in the company at least for another year! |
