Zelina Vega speaks on wanting to get back in the ring

Zelina Vega has been quite busy on the RAW brand as of late as her managerial skills have been in high demand. She has been the driving force of former United States Champion Andrade since their time in NXT together.

Over the past couple of months, she has added Angel Garza to form herself quite the impressive stable. She also had Austin Theory under her tutelage for a short time before he was removed from the group recently. With how busy she has been in this role, she doesn’t spend much time in the ring as a competitor herself.

Vega recently spoke on the Busted Open Podcast and had the following to say when asked if she would hang up her boots to just concentrate on being a manager.

“No, wrestling was my first love and I’ll never grow out of that,” Vega said. “I’ll never feel fulfilled unless I get that run. I truly feel as a singles competitor, that’s going to be a whole new level.

She continues, “Right now my job is to put the other guys over, but when I bring it myself, I don’t think people will be ready for that. When it’s going to happen, there’s going to be no stopping me there. When I mean that, I mean everybody.”

In April, Vega returned to the ring to face the newest addition to the RAW brand Bianca Belair. A very brief feud started and was quickly ended between the two, but their interactions had many people talking. They started with a one-on-one match on the RAW after WrestleMania which ended in a disqualification. It then turned into a three-on-three mixed tag team match where in the end Belair would pin Vega for the win.

Vega comments that this match was a last minute plan and she had to dust off some ring rust as she hadn’t been in the ring for months.

“That was something that just happened that day, it wasn’t planned and I had to be ready for it,” she said. “For me, it’s just finding all kinds of ways to make sure I’m prepared. That doesn’t mean just for wrestling, that goes for being a manager, I’m trying to make sure I’m ready for any and every opportunity that comes my way because I don’t want to be one of those people that they go let’s give her the ball and then be known as the one that drops it. That definitely won’t be me.”

Although Vega is mostly utilized in the ring during Battle Royals or Royal Rumbles, she certainly has what it takes to invest in a storyline. She had a rivalry with Lana in 2018 and she is not shy on the mic.

Prior to her career in WWE, Vega was frequent on the independent scene and also known for her time in TNA where she held the TNA Knockout’s Tag Team Championship with Sarita.
